Mild asthma attacks are common and occur more often. They subside in a few minutes to a few hours, when the airways open up. The patient suffers discomfort during such time, but his condition is under control. Severe asthma attacks occur rarely but in such cases, immediate medical attention is required. Patients prone to severe attacks must always have an inhaler within easy reach.

Severe asthma attacks can be life threatening if immediate medical attention is not administered. Although there is no known cure that can get rid of asthma permanently, there are steps you can take to prevent or alleviate it. The most important thing to consider in dealing or treating your asthma condition is; knowing what triggers it first. After every attack that you experience try asking yourself questions that will allow you to pin point the source; questions like, What did I eat prior to the attack? Or what did I do? Was it in the place that I went to? How was the weather that day? Asking yourself questions will bring you to an answer that you will be able to remedy. Once you have determined the irritants that cause your episodes take immediate action. You can totally avoid these irritants or find other means so that the next time you deal with it, you wont have to worry about flare ups.
