Bacon is considered to be one of the most delicious foods in Western culture. There are plenty websites dedicated to this subject. There are even fan clubs. Surprisingly, there are actually Bacon shoes (they are not genuinely made out of Bacon but are rather designed to look as if they have been – do an online search if you do not believe me).
This, perhaps unexpected appeal, makes us curious. Who invented bacon? How to cook bacon? Can you microwave bacon? How to make bacon? Can we do this ourselves? Which are the best bacon recipes? Is Bacon Healthy? Why do people love it so much?
Fortunately, the internet is a wonderful place to look for resources for such information. A quick query reveals that Bacon is actually cured meat that is made from various parts of a pig. There are numerous types of bacon which come from different areas of the pig (its belly, its side, its loins, its shoulder and even its cheeks). In addition, there are lots of ways of preparing it: it can be baked, boiled, grilled, fried, smoked, used as a component in a salad and in many other methods. Indeed, bacon can most definitely be microwaved (i.e. using a microwave bacon cooker), and this is an action people can do on their own.
Since Bacon is made from pigs (although in certain countries, non-pig based bacon-like foods are also called bacon, which is in my humble opinion simply does not count), is actually forbidden to eat for followers of Judaism and Islam. Judaism treats pigs as ‘dirty’ or ‘tainted’ creatures and as such, all meats made from them are prohibited.
I need to finish, my Spicy Bacon Pasta is waiting for me. I suggest you go and buy some. You know you want to.
